National Scholarship Information Sessions

The University Honors College is hosting information sessions for the Goldwater, Truman, Udall, and Boren Scholarships.  Each session will discuss the profile of strong applicants for the award and the campus-specific application process.  Please see below for a description of the awards, the dates of the info sessions, and the dates for the campus deadlines.

 

THE GOLDWATER SCHOLARSHIP is open to sophomores and juniors who plan to be scientists, mathematicians, or engineers. Winners receive up to

$7,500 annually to help cover tuition, fees, books, room & board. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident.  The information session for this award will be held on Monday, November 8th and Tuesday, November 9th; both sessions will be on the 35th floor of the Cathedral at 4 PM.  The campus deadline for applying for the Goldwater is December 13th (all materials must be in by that point).  More information can be found at http://www.act.org/goldwater/ .

 

THE TRUMAN SCHOLARSHIP is open to juniors who demonstrate considerable leadership in their chosen field.  Applicants in all fields are welcome so long as they are interested in a career in the public sector.  Winners receive up to $30,000 for 2-3 years of graduate study in the US or foreign countries.  Additional governmental internship and employment opportunities are made available to Truman Scholars.

The information sessions for this award will be held on Wednesday, November 10th and Thursday, November 11th; both sessions will be in

1228 CL at 4

PM.  the campus deadline for applying for the Truman Scholarship is December 13th (all materials must be submitted at that time).  More information can be found at www.truman.gov

 

THE UDALL SCHOLARSHIP is for sophomores and juniors who are committed to the environment or environmental policy: winners will receive $5000 (to be applied to tuition, room and board, or other educational expenses), as well as the lifelong networking and educational opportunities that go along with being a Udall alumnus.

Students from any field are welcome to apply so long as they demonstrate a dedication to the environment.  There are also Udall scholarships available to native Americans and Alaskan Natives interested in pursuing careers in Tribal policy or native health care.

 The information sessions for this award will be held on Monday, November 15th and Tuesday, November 16th; both will be on the 35th floor of the Cathedral at 4 PM.  The campus deadline for this award is on January 6th.  More information can be found at http://udall.gov/OurPrograms/MKUScholarship/MKUScholarship.aspx

 

THE BOREN SCHOLARSHIP is open to undergraduates seeking an language immersion opportunity in areas other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Winners receive a maximum of $20,000/academic year.  All applicants must demonstrate how their study programs and future goals are connected to a broad understanding of national security.  In exchange for scholarship funding, all Boren Scholars must agree to a one-year Service Requirement.  A representative from the Boren Awards foundation will be on campus on Wednesday, November 17th to present an information session.  This session will be at 12 Noon in room 1228 in the Cathedral of Learning.

An

additional session, for those who cannot attend, will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 4 PM in room 1228.  The campus deadline for this award is January 6th (all materials must be submitted at that time).  More information can be found at www.borenawards.org.

Goldwater:  Monday the 8th and Tuesday the 9th (both at 4 PM, 3500 CL)

Truman:  Wednesday the 10th and Thursday the 11th (both at 4 PM, 1228 CL)

Udall:  Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th (both at 4 PM, 3500 CL)

Boren: Wednesday the 17th (with Boren Awards Program Manager) at 12 Noon in 1228 CL; Thursday the 18th at 4 PM in 1228 CL.
